The Seven Codes of Chivalry
“One, Never do outrage or murder to any innocent or man with honor. Two, Always flee acts of treason and commit no treachery against thy king or country. Three, Be cruel to no one, and in combat grant mercy to those who ask for it. Four, Do unto women, gentlewoman and widows the service of aid when needed. Five, Harm no woman, gentlewoman or widow. Six, Take up no battle for any cause which is beneath God or country. Seven, Fear god, always, and maintain his church wherever thou finds himself in the world.”
— Oath of the Knights of the Round Table
Arthur stepped unto the chamber containing the chalice. Behind him were the Knights of the Templar, numbering one-hundred and forty men in total. One by one they each drank from the chalice which contained the elixir of immortality. After they drank a being appeared to Arthur and offered him eternity in the paradise-realm of Avalon.
A gate of light opened beside the podium where the chalice sat and each man in Arthur’s company was given the choice to stay on earth, an immortal, or pass unto Avalon: the Island of Apples, for all time. Arthur was the only one to pass over. Since that time the knights have carried their organization down through the ages and defended church and state in the name of the Templar, serving under Solomon’s Temple.
Moving their base of operations, the knights, with the aid of the church and numerous underground government agencies, established their new headquarters beneath the Vatican. Though it was said that Solomon’s Temple was laid to ruins in 587 BCE, and at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar II, during the Siege of Jerusalem, many did not know of the relocation of the temple’s roof, walls, base and entire structure.
Transported west, the original temple was taken out of harms way while a duplicate was built in its place to be ravished by Nebuchadnezzar II’s forces. After moving west the temple was hidden away in several frequently-changing locations until the year 1119. It was in this year that the Templar permanently moved the temple underneath the Vatican.
Before the formation of the Templar there existed the Order of Caballero, who served Solomon and all those who sought the prosperity of Jerusalem. After becoming Templars, Arthur and his men saw the last of the Order of Caballero die off until the organization was no more. Adapting the order’s ethics and goal, the Templars attempted to pushed the will of Solomon through the ages and to all corners of the globe.
Most organizations who have known of the existence of the immortals have either faded away or have gone into hiding. Only the Vatican, to which the Temple of Solomon is connected, knows of their existence and calls upon their help in times of chaos. Though, through the years, knights have left the organization to pursue their own paths, the Templar remains.
During his time with the Templar, Cador began to turn from the path of God and embraced the sciences. He was mostly fond of alchemy and obsessed with the idea of discovering whether god really did exist or not. This eventually drove him away from his brethren and forced Cador into seclusion at a time before the knights considered science to be another instrument of the Lord.
In his lonesomeness Cador grew desperate for prove of God. This desperation led the immortal to seek answers in the slums of Soho, Manhattan, in the year 1933. Since leaving the Vatican a select group of knights had kept an eye on Cador, to ensure nothing happened to him and to assure the church that their secret in harboring the immortals would never come to public light.
After his move to Soho the Templar’s Watchers lost track of Cador and not even all their advanced research could locate him. Candor seemed to have just disappeared off the face of the earth, without any rhyme or reason. No one knew how, and no one knew where. All the knights felt was fear that a feuding organization had gotten a hold of him and planned to use their ally against them.
These anxieties settled as decades passed and nothing related to Candor’s disappearance had erupted. To this day the knights Bors and Mordred still search the world over for their old fiend, but to no avail. Candor remains missing to this day, as does his research on the existence of god and omnipotence, as well as his missing apartment which, some say, seems to have ben cut out from the top of his apartment building and transported somewhere else.
